Washing Machines - A quick guide to using your washing machine

This guide will get you started but we recommend for your own safety and to get the best possible results from your machine, that you read the supplied handbook thoroughly.
Remember you may be charged for a service call if a problem with your appliance is caused by incorrect installation or misuse.
Before using your machine for the first time, we advise that you run it through wash programme 'B' without any laundry and without any detergent in it.  This will check your installation, connections and drainage, are working and will thoroughly clean the interior before you carry out an actual wash programme on your laundry.
NOTE: This will take about 2 hours to complete.

A Typical Wash Programme - For a Hotpoint washing machine only

  1. Sort your laundry into groups by washcare labels.  Load the machine.  Close the machine door by pushing until it clicks.
  2. Add detergent and fabric conditioner to the dispenser drawer.  Refer to the detergent manufacturer's dosage instructions.
  3. Turn the programme selector dial to the required programme.
  4. Select any optional wash feature(s) you require by pressing the appropriate button(s), indicator lights will show what you have chosen.
  5. Models WMA 48, WMA46 and WMM39 only
If required, reduce the spin speed by turning the variable spin speed control dial.  NOTE keep the dial on its maximum setting to give the recommended spin speed for the wash programme.
  6. Models WMA48, WMA44 and WMM39 only
If required, reduce the wash temperature by turning the variable temperature control dial.  NOTE keep the dial on its maximum setting to give the recommended temperature for the wash programme.
  7. When all the selections have been made press the 'START' button.
To stop a programme once the machine has started, turn the programme selector dial '!' and press the 'START' button.  As you turn the programme selector dial the 'WASH' light will flash.  The flashing will stop and the 'WASH' light will go out when you press 'START'.
The 'END' light then flashes as the machine pumps out water from the drum to a safe level.  When the 'END' light stops flashing you can reselect the programme you want (check the dispenser drawer you may need to add detergent).  Press the 'START' button again to carry on.
If you do not select a new programme, after a short time the 'DOOR LOCKED' indicator light will go out and you can open the door.
CAUTION: The load and the water remaining in the drum may still be extremely hot!
  8. During the wash, the programme progress lights will show what stage in the cycle the programme has reached.
  9. A short time after the programme has finished, the 'DOOR LOCKED' indicator light will go out and the door can be opened.
Return the wash dial to 'OFF'.
